About Dr. Swanson

Dr. Swanson is the Founder & CEO at Emenator -- a social network inspired by classroom conversations with her students about social media and developed by a worldwide team for the 18+ demographic. She is an entrepreneur and communications and business writing specialist currently serving as a lecturer at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has an extensive professional working background as a corporate and technical writer and editor with experience in business, private industry, publishing, and government and national defense sectors.

 

She teaches courses at the University of Tennessee in business writing and communications, technical writing, public writing, drama, and in literature. Students in Dr. Swanson's business writing and public writing courses have benefited from her real-world approach to writing for transfer and her dedication to service learning.

 

Several business writing students have launched corporations before the end of their semester in Dr. Swanson's courses and students in her public writing classes have raised awareness and money for non-profits. 

 

Her academic research interests include dramatic literature and drama theory, age studies, studies in digital humanities, and work in digital humanities as praxis and pedagogy.

Dr. Swanson's classroom experience includes working with Second Language (L2) learners and non-traditional students at the university. She spends part of each summer semester teaching technical communication and writing in academic outreach programs, such as Project GRAD and the Educational Advancement Program.
